The agricultural farm Meirana stretches for about 100 hectares of which 60 hectares are vineyards specialized in Cortese vines and 3 in red berry grapes vines. The plant system is the traditional "Guyot".

The name Meirana is connected to the story of Gavi itself. As a matter of fact the first document where the name Meirana appears is kept in the state Archives in Genova and there vineyards and chestnut woods on the spot called Meirana are mentioned.

This document, dated 971 A.D., confirms the vine growing and wine producing tradition of the area at the dawn of the story of the town of Gavi. The farm Piero Broglia was founded by Bruno Broglia and was rented by his son, Piero, in 1972.

With a degree in Law achieved at the University of Milan, he was elected a Member of Parliament for the Novi Ligure constituency. During his mandate he was also a member of the Parliament Agriculture Committee and took part into the relevant works. He has also been President of the Consortium for the protection of the Gavi and, the first in Italy, has founded the local register of the vineyards owners through the surveying of the vines via satellite.

In the Eighties at his estate la Meirana he started the research on the Cortese clones in cooperation with the Agricultural Science at the University of Turin and under the direction of Professor Scienza of Agricultural Science at the University of Milan new studies have been conducted in the cellar, particularly about vinification in absence of suphur dioxide .

Three new clones have been selected and certified, and for the first time implanted in the new magnificent vineyard of around 6 hectares next to our cellar.

The Gavi La Meirana was served on the Vatican tables during the celebrations for the 25 years of Pope John Paul II's pontificate and offered during the official banquets in the seats of several Italian Embassies. Our wines are sold in Italy and abroad through a network of distributors who are present in the most important capital cities of about 20 countries.

The first bottles were put on the market in 1974, which was the same year that could vaunt the controlled denomination of origin (D.O.C.). Later, by means of gradual and well planned investments, the farmhouses on the estate were restructured. In 1982 the new wine making cellar was created and in the year 2000 it was enlarged and reorganized.

The main production is know by the trade-mark Gavi D.O.C.G. di Gavi La Meirana.

The most prestigious wine produced is the Gavi D.O.C.G. di Gavi Bruno Broglia which comes from the vineyards planted in 1953 and 1955. The yield of these vineyards over the years has been, on average, from 30 to 40 hectolitres per hectare.

The harvest is kept in fruit-boxes, after the best grapes have been chosen. Another cru produced on the farm comes from the vineyard Villa Broglia whose name it carries. A fine sparkling D.O.C.G. wine called Roverello is also produced. From the grapes of the red-berry vineyards a Red Monferrato D.O.C. wine called Le Pernici is vinified after a special selection of the grapes.
Other products from Meirana are the Spumante Extra-Brut produced by the traditional classic method in small quantity and bottled in high yield years.
